How can humanitarian law help in a time of immigrant crisis?

Join Mary McColley, our SAVE member and a dedicated writer for STCP. Her online Zoom session will share her knowledge about international humanitarian law and a few of the many complexities faced in situations of refugee population flows.<\/p>\n
Refugees flee war, conflict, and societal upheaval, escaping from situations where it can seem like all law and order has disappeared. But it is in these situations that international humanitarian law comes into play. What is this law? How has it developed over time? What protections and structures are in place for refugees, and who is in charge of the response? Why does obtaining refugee status matter, and how can we help our refugee community?<\/p>\n

\nMary McColley is a writer originally hailing from Maine in the United States, though Paris has been her home for the past few years. She recently graduated summa cum laude from the American University of Paris after undergraduate studies in history, law, and languages. Mary is passionate about issues of migration, the ocean, women’s rights, and Claude Fran\u00e7ois.<\/p>\n

SAVE offers a combination of theory (online workshops) and practice (volunteer activities) and projects where you are able to collaborate with other like-minded volunteers to become more empowered as a change-agent in today\u2019s society.<\/p>\n
Once you become a SAVE Member, you will work closely with other SAVE members and our leadership team on what we call social impact \u201cCapstone Projects\u201d. You will also have the opportunity to join any of our monthly SAVE workshops free of charge whenever you like. You will be invited to our exclusive SAVE member workshops, member-only volunteer activities, and social initiatives.<\/p>\n
Each SAVE member also receives a Certificate of Completion, and a personalized Letter of Testimonial for your CV, school credit, or work upon request.<\/p>\n
