World Refugee Day is one of the most important international observances dedicated to human dignity, protection, and solidarity. It was celebrated globally for the first time on 20 June 2001, marking the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees.
On 20 June 2026, STCP, in collaboration with the American Church in Paris, celebrated World Refugee Day with STCP volunteers and beneficiaries—refugees, asylum seekers, immigrants, expats—and members of the American Church at the church’s social activities hall. Participants from a wide range of nationalities joined the event, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Benin, China, Egypt, France, Guinea, India, Pakistan, Sudan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Yemen.
The theme of this year’s event was Sudanese culture. STCP volunteers and beneficiaries—Muram, Khalid, Hafi, Salah, Taha, and Ahmed—prepared Sudanese vegetarian and non‑vegetarian dishes for the participants. Muram gave a short introduction to Sudan, and at the end of the event, participants danced to songs from Sudan, Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh, Benin, and Yemen.
As part of its cultural exchange programs, STCP continues to celebrate cultural events and provide opportunities for volunteers, beneficiaries, and partners to share knowledge and learn about one another. These activities honor the strength, courage, and resilience of refugees who flee conflict, persecution, or violence, while raising awareness, building empathy, and fostering understanding.
STCP believes that celebrating such events enriches societies with new cultures, languages, skills, and perspectives, and highlights the positive impact of diversity within communities.
