TEACH ENGLISH AND FRENCH TO REFUGEES AND THE MARGINALIZED

JOIN OUR FRENCH & ENGLISH LANGUAGE EXCHANGE PROGRAM EVERY THURSDAY NIGHT!

Teach English or French to our refugee community, underprivileged kids and the marginalized.

For this event, please first register to become a STCP volunteer at this link HERE

WHERE:
Volunteers meet every Thursday night at 19H at 140 rue Amelot, Paris 75011.  (Line 5 Metro Oberkampf,  or a 5 minute walk from Metro Place République 75003).  Our training room only seats 30 participants (15 refugees and 15 volunteers) each week, so once you’ve registered to become a volunteer, sign up in advance on our Event Calendar page HERE

WHAT:
During this language exchange, volunteers are given a topic and are matched with a member of our refugee community.  Volunteers work individually with a member of our refugee community to teach the beneficiary French or English.

Volunteers rotate to a different refugee at least twice during the full hour of teaching.   After the 1 hour session is over, STCP provides dinner for the refugees and participating volunteers, but we also ask our volunteers to bring food items such as nuts, fruit, cookies or a French baguette to share.  The entire activity usually lasts 90 minutes.

REQUIREMENTS:
You don’t have to be a trained language instructor to participate, but we do ask that you consider joining our S.A.V.E. (Service, Action, Volunteer & Engage) Program, to learn in advance how to work directly with our refugee community. The SAVE Program offers bi-weekly  training and a combination of theory and practice workshops every month to ensure more impactful and meaningful volunteer experiences for our volunteers and our refugee community.

If you are interested in joining the SAVE, there are many benefits. First, our interactive workshops are offered at least 3 times per month and cover a wide variety of topics relating to social impact and how to become a better volunteer.     SAVE participants may also  participate in a larger selection of volunteer activities and events that most of the time, go beyond our standard volunteer activities.     SAVE members also receive a certificate of benevolence for school, work or job search requirements. SAVE members also collaborate with fellow SAVE members to social impact projects.

There is no charge to join the SAVE program if you have already signed up as a STCP volunteer (HERE) and you have donated the monthly €10 euro donation fee to volunteer with Serve The City Paris.

A S.A.V.E. application can be filled out HERE.    To learn more about the S.A.V.E. Program, click HERE.
